A vivacious, beautiful and self-made star in the 90s from Nepal, Manisha Koirala who gave the world of cinema some of the most beguiling performances. From Khamoshi to Bombay to Dil Se, she effortlessly pulled off some of the greatest roles played by an actress with the best actors in the industry.
She used to bring in thousands of emotions so subtly that it was almost unbelievable how she did not continue to get work anymore. The actor hit bottom rock in her career, had a failed marriage and fought against cancer. Her whole speech was a morale booster, her struggle to accept the failures and to rise above all of it and come back to the same place which gave her starry nights and let her down, the industry. Not many have the courage to talk about the unhealthy life that they lead or the failure that took away all the stardom in front of such an enormous audience.
“Life had planned something else for me. That I would be thrown into a whirlwind of things where slowly I would start to lose it all. I signed a bad film which flopped and I got a bad review and then there was another and another” said Manisha . She talked about her choice of friends and relationships which failed and how she was in denial of everything. She spoke gracefully about the aggressive cancer that struck her and how she got scared of dying and only then she did she realise that she was living a life she wasn’t proud of.
Manisha counted her blessing after she came out cancer-free and said, “I found that this life is a gift and everything that comes with it is a gift. People who cross our paths are gifts. We need to live our truth. We need to discover ourselves.” Her second chance of life changed her entire life plan, a plan with better relationships, better choices and better health
As she spoke in TEDx Jaipur, all that we saw was an epitome of strength and courage. Her entire speech was inspiring and emotional. Everybody has had their share of battles but to overcome such battles and fight like a warrior is a choice that has to be made, Manisha Koirala though had terrible lows in career, she chose to rise much higher in life. As she put it aptly “There’s a message underneath every problem that life throws at you.”
